In an effort to promote knowledge sharing, the Roberto Rocca Education Program and TenarisUnversity, the corporate university of program sponsor Tenaris, have launched the Roberto Rocca Fellows Conference Series featuring presentations by Fellows on their research findings. The conferences are presented via webex and are open to employees from the sponsoring companies.
In May, Petrica Dulgheru, a Fellow from Romania who is completing his Ph.D. in catalysis at University College Dublin, spoke on the issue of global warming. In addition to discussing the causes of global warming and the economic issues involved in addressing it, Dulgheru discussed technologies being employed in the automotive industry to reduce emissions.
Other conferences have featured Gustavo Castelluccio, a Ph.D. candidate at Georgia Institute of Technology, who presentation was entitled “Crystallographic growth of cracks under cyclic loading;” Bianca de Carvalho Pinheiro, a Ph.D. candidate at Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille, who spoke on the subject of fatigue damage initiation in oil and gas steel pipes; Tatiana Reyes, a Ph.D. candidate at the Colorado School of Mines, who addressed the issue of AC corrosion; and José Luis Lopez Salinas, a Ph.D. candidate at Rice University, who spoke on the subject of enhanced oil recovery techniques.
