The Roberto Rocca Education Program reaffirmed in May its commitment to Mexico by awarding 152 Scholarships to fourth and fifth year engineering students from 18 universities. Awardees from most of the universities were recognized at two separate events, one in Monterrey and the other in Puebla.
“We are pleased to once again have the opportunity to recognize so many students from many of Mexico’s finest universities. As is the case in all countries where Roberto Rocca Scholarships are awarded, we hope that through this initiative we can contribute to the formation of outstanding students who will contribute to the development of their own communities,” commented Daniel Krishock, Roberto Rocca Education Program Director.
Mexico ranks only second to Argentina for the number of Roberto Rocca Scholarships awarded each year. The program in Mexico is co-sponsored by Monterrey-based Ternium and Veracruz-based TenarisTamsa.
Speaking at the ceremony in Monterrey, Vilma Ortiz, who is majoring in Industrial & System Engineering at the Universidad de Monterrey, stated: “I am proud of being recognized by this program that supports education. The fact that they believed in us encourages us to make a bigger effort to reach our goals.”
Agustin Peña, an Electronic & Communications engineering student at the Universidad Veracruzana, expressed similar sentiments at the ceremony in Puebla. "It is a very fulfilling experience seeing our efforts recognized and shows the commitment of the companies towards students,” he stated.
